On my engine rebuild which bolts can I re-use?

We would recommend on any engine rebuild to replace all bolts with new ones , but the most important ones are main bearings and cylinder head bolts.

Some bolts on the Rover V8 engine are stretch bolts, and these are designed to be used only once as they will not re-torque properly the second time round.

If you consider the cost of new bolts (stud kits) against the cost of stripping the engine down, removing (or having removed) that bolt that just snapped off, then, if you are really unlucky having to have a helicoil fitted (which probably means you will not be able to properly torque that bolt down ever again), you can see why spending a little extra time and money initially is an excellent idea.

You can find our bolt kits and stud kit in the engine and components section of our eBay shop
